Due to tragic fires in the area in the past, the Seiffen Gymnastics Club decided to take action for fire prevention. The founding of the Seiffen Volunteer Fire Department in 1875 likely inspired Wilhelm Füchtner to create a nutcracker firefighter to honor the courageous comrades.
